Kankaļi wooden Catholic church

In 1870, a wooden cemetery chapel was built in the Kankaļi cemetery, located about 12 km from Kurmene. It was built at the same time as the church in Kurmene. After the First World War, under the leadership of Janis Panteleons, the chapel was restored by adding a sacristy.

The Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist in Kankaļi is a wooden architectural monument of European importance. 

Finding the church can be a bit of a challenge, but everyone who visits it will feel the aura of antiquity.
