Irši manor barn - Magazina

Irši, Iršu pagasts, Aizkraukles novads, Latvija, LV-5108

The Irši Manor Barn (Magazīna) is the oldest surviving structure in the village of Irši and part of the historic Irši Manor complex. Architecturally, it is a vivid example of Vidzeme manor construction from the late Classicism period in the first half of the 19th century. The building features typical characteristics of masonry granaries of the time, including an open arched gallery.

Originally, the barn was built to store grain and create reserves. During the Soviet era, it housed a woodworking workshop, producing windows and doors for local agricultural needs. A new chapter in the barn's history began in 2010, when the surroundings were improved thanks to the initiative of parish administration staff and active Irši residents.

In June 2021, extensive renovation work began. The barn was restored with careful attention to preserving the authenticity of the historic two-story masonry building. The wooden roof structure was rebuilt, and a new roof covering was installed. Special care was taken to preserve and restore the centuries-old wooden doors, where hand-forged nails, visible traces of history, remain. Today, the Irši Manor barn has taken on a new life. It has become a vibrant cultural venue and a welcoming destination for tourists.
