What to do in Koknese this weekend?

santakokneseskarteideja.jpgThe weekend is here, but you haven't planned what to do yet? Maybe you were scared of the wind and thought you should stay at home under a warm blanket, but when you saw the sunlight outside the window, you realised you had to go out after all?

If your answer is yes, then we can cheer you up because we HAVE ideas for your weekend!

Head to Koknese Park! Yes, even if you think you've seen it all, it's always worth a visit! Every walk surprises you with something new and unseen. Have you explored the ancient cobblestone outcrops? Enjoyed the soothing sound of the water at the Pērse Falls? We recommend you walk all the paths in the park, observe the scenery from the tea house, count how many steps of the Pērse Falls there are now... Walking through John's Gate, or the Gate of Love, make a wish, it's been said that wishes come true! Of course, like a juicy cherry on the birthday cake are the medieval ruins of Koknese Castle... Visit them! Imagine the events of the past, feel the breath of the past and enjoy the scenery of the confluence of the Pērse and Daugava rivers! If you fancy a longer walk and a more orderly "leg curl", head to the Garden of Destiny along the Koknese Nature Trail!
How about a more active version of exploring Koknese Park? Download the "Roadgames" app on your smartphone and choose the Koknese game! It's for 2-4 people and for at least two hours you'll get to know Koknese and explore its lost world!
When was the last time you climbed a castle mound?  Many people have no idea that there are also hillforts in our surroundings, from the tops of which you can observe the harmonious and peaceful nature. Head to Irše! See the historic magazines, which are currently being restored to remind visitors of its ancient pride. Visit the former parish house and learn about the history of the Irsi colony. Climb the Bulandu Mound! Can you feel the breath of ancient times in your chin?
Take a walk in Vecbere Manor Park! Vecbebry Manor can only be seen from the outside, but it is an outstanding testimony to history! Built in the Classical style in the first half of the 19th century, it was later burnt down, but has been restored and can still be seen today. Surrounding the manor house is a small English landscape-style park with paths where you can enjoy the ancient and even slightly primitive atmosphere.
Have you explored the village of Bilstiņi? Several decades ago, when Bilstiņi and Koknese were separated by the deep Pērse valley with the highest waterfall in Latvia at that time in the middle of it, Bilstiņi was a favourite summer residence of artists and Latvian University professors. Professor Endzelīns, Professor Blese, Assistant Professor Ābele and many others lived in Bilstiņi. The writer Kārlis Skalbe also spent the summer of 1905 in Bilstiņi. If you want to get to know Bilstiņi, we recommend that you plan a Sunday lunchtime visit to the quail farm "Rīta putni"! Everyone who calls themselves a gourmet deserves to taste quails and other delicacies!
Long walks are tiring for everyone. We recommend you to get yourself settled and enjoy a wonderful meal in one of the places offered in Koknese! If you want something quick and street-food-worthy, visit "In Burger" in Koknese Green Market Square. If you want to dine at home - order a holiday offer from "Koknesis" On the spot, you can enjoy wonderful meals at the tavern "Rūdolfs" and "Panna Cafe Koknese". And for a new and special experience, visit the quail farm "Rīta putni" - we recommend you book in advance!
How will it be - did we inspire you to move and enjoy your holidays outside?

See you in Koknese!
