Inland dunes Pagrabkalni

The largest “desert” of Selonia, known as Pagrabkalni, is a series of Latvia’s highest inland (aeolian) dunes located within the Taurkalne forest massif, formed during the retreat of the glacier. The highest dune reaches 95 metres above sea level, while the Baltic Sea lies more than 100 km away.

Standing here creates a surreal feeling – the sandy dunes surrounded by pine forest make you feel as if you were at the seaside.
