Andrejs Upīts Memorial House and garden

Daugavas iela 58, Skrīveri, Skrīveru pagasts, Aizkraukles novads, Latvija, LV-5125

The first building in the birthplace of writer Andrejs Upītis, “Kalniņi,” was built in 1908–1909 according to the author’s own plans and drawings, but was burned down by the German army in 1917. Construction of the current house began in 1921 and was completed within a few years.

The writer lived here from 1908 to 1915, but from 1922 to 1940 he spent his summers here. After his death in 1970, the house became a branch of the memorial museum.

A garden planted by the writer stretches around the museum, where ash, red-leaf maple, walnut, oak and other trees grow, creating a special, literary atmosphere.

Visitors can visit the main exhibition, the exhibition “Riding in a Carriage with Mr. Brīviņš,” as well as tours of the A. Upītis Garden.

Tours require prior registration.

Opening hours (May 1 – October 31):

Tuesday–Saturday: 10:00–17:00

Sunday, Monday: closed
