Since the autumn of 2018, an exhibition of traditional musical instruments has been on display in the premises of the “Skaņumāja” association in Krape parish. It allows you to get to know the instruments made and played in Latvia over the past 100 years, trace their development path, as well as listen to their sound or try out ancient sound instruments yourself.
The exhibition features kokles, zithers, harmonicas of various systems, violins, mandolins and other instruments both imported and made by local masters, which vividly reflect the diversity of music-making traditions, regional differences and Latvia’s place in a broader cultural context.
With us, you can get to know Latvian traditional musical instruments in the Skaņumāja exhibition, get a story from a knowledgeable specialist about their making and playing traditions, as well as enjoy the sound of the instruments in person. It is also possible to listen to a concert lecture, where Skaņumāja musicians introduce the diversity of Latvian traditional music and the instruments played and made in Latvia.
Visit is possible only with prior appointment.
