Jaunasmuizas oak

Dambēni, Vietalvas pagasts, Aizkraukles novads, Latvija, LV-5109

In January 1996, a group of ancient tree liberators led by Imants Ziedonis named the grand oak growing in Jaunāmuiža, Vietalva Parish, after one of the group’s most active members — Guntis Eniņš, a passionate explorer and protector of nature. The oak’s circumference was 8 meters, and its wood volume is 42 cubic meters, as the trunk maintains a constant thickness up to 7 meters in height. There is no other comparable oak in Latvia. Since 2001, an owl has been recorded living inside the tree’s hollow. The oak is more than 450 years old.

It is one of the mightiest oaks in Latvia, located near Jaunāmuiža in Vietalva Parish. At the end of the 19th century, Jānis Bēķis rented the Jaunāmuiža estate from Baron von Brimmer of Odziena Manor.
