View of the Daugava at the water tower in Skrīveri

Ūdenstornis, Zemkopības institūts, Skrīveru pagasts, Aizkraukles novads, Latvija, LV-5125

The old water tower of the Institute of Agriculture village is located behind the Institute's residential building, where the Skrīveri open-air stage used to be. During the Soviet era, the stage was used for various concerts, balls and student song and dance shows. Today, all that remains of the stage is a meadow with a wonderful view of the Daugava Valley Nature Park. The landscape features the meanders of the Daugava and the meadows of the valley, which are home to a variety of protected plant species, as well as the other bank of the Daugava - Jaunjelgava. The water tower is to be transformed into an observation tower, where you will be able to climb up and see the landscape from a higher and more magnificent vantage point. In the vicinity there are various places of interest - Kraukļakmens, Aizkraukle Castle Mound and the Ašķere/Spīdalas trail. The Leonidas Antons trail, which is nearby, leads from the water tower to the banks of the Daugava and the foot of the Aizkraukle castle hill.
