In search of new ideas for tourism development and to strengthen cooperation among industry stakeholders, on 27 and 28 October the Zemgale Planning Region invited tourism entrepreneurs and specialists to take part in a study visit to Pärnu and its surrounding area in Estonia. Among the participants were representatives of Aizkraukle Municipality, who joined the exchange to gain valuable insights and inspiration from Estonian best practice examples.

Over the course of two days, participants visited a range of tourism businesses and attractions that reflect Estonia’s approach to developing a sustainable and diverse tourism offering. The visits provided valuable insights into how local resources, traditions, and entrepreneurial initiative are leveraged to foster tourism development and create competitive tourism products. A meeting with representatives of Visit Pärnu offered an in-depth perspective on destination management, marketing activities, and collaboration with local tourism entrepreneurs and stakeholders.

The study visit also provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen cooperation among tourism stakeholders across the Zemgale region. Through informal discussions, participants exchanged ideas, reflected on the best practice examples observed in Estonia, and explored opportunities for developing joint tourism routes and collaborative initiatives by combining the tourism offerings of several municipalities.

Aizkraukle Municipality was represented by the following tourism businesses and organisations:

  “Laimeskalni” Recreation Area, Camping

  “Baltaine” Association and the House near river “Sidrabi”

  “Rijnieki Riverside Cabin”

  “Ciemiņos” Holiday house

  “Ceriņi” Campsite on the Daugava River and the Concert Dome

  Jaunjelgava Tourism Information Point

We extend our sincere thanks to the Zemgale Planning Region for the well-designed programme, the excellent organisation of the study visit, and the opportunity to gain new knowledge, draw inspiration from the experiences of Estonian tourism entrepreneurs, establish new professional contacts, and strengthen cooperation with colleagues from other municipalities, thereby contributing to the continued development of the tourism sector in the Zemgale region.
