Enjoy the Autumn in and Around Koknese!
In autumn, Koknese takes on a special atmosphere – the banks of the Daugava and Pērse rivers turn vibrant and golden, while the park and ancient castle ruins become a photographer’s dream, surrounded by a swirl of red, yellow and orange leaves. Although the peak of the golden autumn is yet to come, the favourable weather forecast for the weekend is an invitation to head outdoors and enjoy the diversity of autumn colours already now.

Koknese Park
Falling leaves, historic paths and places invite you to take a leisurely walk and discover new landscapes at every turn. The park features a replica of the Pērse waterfall, an obstacle course, a variety of wooden sculptures, the Devil’s Cellar, a tea house–gazebo, the ruins of Koknese Medieval Castle and other attractions. It is a wonderful place for a relaxing walk and Instagram-worthy photographs.
Koknese Nature Trail
The nearly six-kilometre-long nature trail connects Koknese Park, the medieval castle ruins, the Lutheran church and the Garden of Destiny, taking you on a scenic walk along the banks of the Pērse and Daugava rivers. Being surrounded by nature lets you experience the beauty of autumn and once again appreciate why it is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.
Garden of Destiny
The well-maintained paths and attractions will surprise and delight every nature lover. The viewing terrace offers a wonderful view of the Koknese Medieval Castle ruins and the left bank of the Daugava. The Saieta House is also worth a visit, where you can explore an exhibition. From the roof of the Saieta House, you can see the Koknese Lutheran Church from a different perspective.
Vecbebri Manor Park
A wonderful place for peaceful and leisurely walks while enjoying nature and architecture. Informative stands along the way offer an insight into the history of Bebri Parish, while QR codes on the benches allow visitors to listen to interesting stories. The landscape is also complemented by a recently unveiled environmental object, while children and young people will especially enjoy the obstacle course among the trees of the manor park.
Koknese Medieval Castle Ruins
A visit to the medieval castle ruins is an essential part of discovering Koknese. Imagine the events of the past, feel the presence of history and enjoy the landscape at the place where two rivers – the Pērse and the Daugava – meet. Visit the Chamber of Torture, see centuries-old cannons, learn about the history of the castle ruins at the visitor service centre and try out the digital solutions available on site.
Boat Trip
See the banks of the Pērse and Daugava rivers from the deck of a boat! In autumn, the riverbanks transform into a true painting, especially beautiful on sunny days when golden hues are reflected in the blue-tinted surface of the rivers.
Boats “Vīgante”, “Sēlis” (www.daugavaskugi.lv) and “Daugava 16” (+371 26434520) operate from the pier at the Koknese Medieval Castle ruins, while boat “Gulbis” (www.kugitisgulbis.lv) departs from the Garden of Destiny pier. It is also possible to take a trip on the motorboat “Kārkļu osta” from the pier at the “Kārkļu osta” campsite (www.karkluosta.com).
Koknese Lutheran Church
A historic site on the banks of the Daugava, surrounded by impressive oak trees that take on particularly vibrant colours in autumn. For a donation, visitors can climb the church tower and enjoy the surrounding landscape from a higher viewpoint.
Bulandu Hillfort
A scenic recreation area in Irši Parish. The beautiful landscape and the small hillfort area, with benches and an information board, offer an opportunity to learn more about the history of the site. It is a wonderful place to enjoy being close to nature. A recreation area has also been created at the nearby Irši Dam.
