The Nereta Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church is a parish church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jelgava, part of the Riga Metropolitan. It is located in the village of Nereta, Aizkraukle Municipality.
Church Construction
Catholics in Nereta didn’t have their own church, and Masses were held in a chapel at the Ķišķi cemetery.
The cornerstone for the church building was blessed by Bishop Antons Justs on October 10, 1997, and construction soon began. The building work, with a large contribution from the local people of Nereta, lasted for three years, and as a result, the church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Spirit on October 8, 2000. It is the newest church in the region.
The church project was designed by architect Aivars Melderis, while the project manager was also involved in overseeing the project.
