How to get to Aizkraukle?

Aizkraukle is only 95 kilometres away from the Latvian capital city Riga, an average of an hour by car, an hour and a half by bus and just over an hour by train, making it easily accessible to tourists.

To get to Aizkraukle by car from Riga, it is possible to use various road routes:

• The A6 road (Riga - Daugavpils), driving from Riga via Ikšķili, Ogri, Lielvārde and other smaller or larger towns and villages.
• P80 road (Tīnūži - Koknese), turning to Skrīveri and continuing to Aizkraukli on the A6.
• Take the P85 road (Riga - Jaunjelgava), which after Jaunjelgava joins the P87 (Bauska-Aizkraukle) road, arriving in Aizkraukle and passing through the Pļaviņas HES tunnel.

To get to Aizkraukle by car from Daugavpils

• Take the A6 road (Riga - Daugavpils - Krāslava) to Jēkabpils, cross the Daugava and continue on the P76 road (Aizkraukle - Jēkabpils), arriving in Aizkraukle and crossing the Pļaviņas HPP tunnel.
• Take the A6 road (Riga - Daugavpils - Krāslava).

To get to Aizkraukle from Riga by train, it is possible to use both diesel and electric trains, while from Daugavpils/Madona/Krustpils - only the diesel train. Aizkraukle can be reached by bus from different parts of Latvia. There are buses from Riga, Daugavpils, Gulbene, Bauska, as well as from all over the Aizkraukle region - Pļaviņas, Koknese, Skrīveri, Jaunjelgava and Nereta. Buses stop at both the Aizkraukle Station, located on the A6 motorway, and the Aizkraukle Bus Station, located in the city centre.

Local buses, or city buses, also run in Aizkraukle. They connect the whole city. You can get to the station, Aizkraukle municipality, the bus station, the cottage district on the other side of the hydroelectric power station and other places. Services are provided by Liepāja Bus Park and cost 70 cents per ticket, regardless of the length of the journey.
