The Kureli movement began on July 28, 1944, in Skrīveri, at the “Robeži” house. Soldiers and young people gathered here, and the so-called Skrīveri battalion of several hundred men was formed.
At the suggestion of Skrīveri pensioners and with the help of many donors and supporters, a memorial sign to the Kureli people was erected in Skrīveri on the “Dīvajas iela–Mucenieki” road leading to the “Robeži” house, honoring this important historical testimony.
