Constructed during the 17th c. as a Swedish fortification against the Poles. The fortification is located in a strategically advantageous location between the Skanstupīte River and the entry of Aiviekste into the Daugava River. It has been relatively well preserved and it is notable for its four pronounced bastions and high edges. Nowadays there is an open-air stage here, where events are held every summer. An archeological monument of national importance.
