The traditional Catfish awekening Festival will take place in Koknese on 10 and 11 May. As usual, the Daugava's greatest inhabitant will be awakened with various entertainments and activities.
The activities of the Festival will start already on the evening of 10 May. At 17:30 everyone is invited to go on a hike "Go to wake up Koknese Catfish", which will take you on an active and beautiful adventure around the Rīteri quarry (advance registration turisms@aizkraukle.lv, participation fee).
On Saturday, 11 May, the festival will start in the early hours of the morning, with the Spring Fair taking place from 8 am on Blaumaņa and Parka Streets. In Koknese Park, every corner will be alive with activities from 10-12. At the fountain "Fauna Head" and the wooden sculpture "For Eternity", the Koknese amateur groups will sing, dance and entertain visitors with lively performances.
From 11 am to 4 pm, everyone is invited to the forecourt of the medieval castle ruins and the meadow near the Koknese Stage to see the varied activities of the Medieval History Reconstruction Club "Rodenpoys" and the societies of the Koknese Association. A blacksmith's workshop, a medieval soup kitchen, a soldiers' tent and a display of armour and weapons will be available in the forecourt of the medieval castle ruins of Koknese. The Dunense Association will offer a leather workshop, the Baltaine Association will explore culinary heritage, the Irši iedvesmo Association will invite you to try your hand at Ebrian painting, and the Youth Association
At 15, the medieval ruins of Koknese Castle will be filled with the powerful melodies of the Riga French Horn Quartet, feeling the true spirit and allure of the Middle Ages.
From 16:00, registration for the car orienteering competition "Drive to wake up Koknese Catfish!" will start at the Koknese Stage . Teams will have the opportunity to go on an exciting adventure, discovering various tourist attractions in the vicinity of Koknese and Pļaviņas, performing ingenious tasks and competing for prizes. The first team will start at 17:00 (advance registration www.visitkoknese.lv, entry fee).
At 19, the Koknese Amateur Theatre will welcome everyone to the premiere of the play "Rent and Three Eggs" at the Koknese Culture Centre .
The first open air music festival of the season will be played by the band "Netīšām blice" at the end of the evening on the Koknese stage . During the festival, the best and most skillful teams of the orienteering competition will be awarded.
Throughout the day, in the medieval castle ruins of Koknese, there will be an opportunity to visit the Chamber, explore the virtual stand, and go on scenic boat and catamaran trips along the Daugava and the Pērse.
