The old open-air stage in Linden Park dates back to the 19th century, when it was used as a dancing square for servicemen. The more complete construction of the stage in the park was completed in 1951. The open-air stage was a unique wooden structure and was designed in such a way as not to harm the surrounding old linden trees. The stage was built around the trees. The stage was used for various festive events, such as the famous and unforgettable Song Festival in 1965.
On the night of 16 May 2009, the Linden Park stage was destroyed by fire. The stage was completely destroyed, as were the old linden trees in the immediate vicinity of the stage in the southern part of the park. At that time, there was a fire station opposite Linden Park on Uzvaras Street (about 100 m away), but the building had no windows facing the park, so information about the fire was received late. The bandstand could not be saved. It was suspected that the fire was deliberately set, as it had started in several places at the same time. A new one was built in 2011-2012 on the site of the old one in Linden Park. On 2 June 2012, the inter-regional school song and dance festival was held here, with 700 participants from schools in Aizkraukle, Skrīveri, Nereta and Jaunjelgava. The renovated stage is made of boulder masonry and has good acoustics. The park was also landscaped, with new seats and paths for spectators, a playground with a large swing, a car park and a bonfire area, as well as landscaping.
